New Mauritius Hotels Expands in Morocco

Editorial September 17, 2025

New Mauritius Hotels has confirmed its commitment to the Moroccan market with the launch of the second phase of Royal Palm Marrakech, marking a significant expansion of the luxury hospitality group's international footprint.

The Mauritian hotel group, operating under the Beachcomber brand, is investing more than 600 million Moroccan dirhams ( Rs 3.03 billion) in this new development, over double the amount initially planned. The project will deliver 300 luxury rooms, establishing another landmark destination in Marrakech that combines Mauritian hospitality excellence with Moroccan authenticity.

This expansion builds on a framework investment agreement signed with the Moroccan government in 2006. Stéphane Poupinel de Valencé, Chief Executive Officer of New Mauritius Hotels, emphasised Morocco's potential despite recent challenges, including geopolitical tensions and a 5.2-magnitude earthquake in February 2025 that impacted the group's earnings.

The project represents a strategic partnership with Ynexis Group, formerly known as Yamed Group, a leading Moroccan hospitality investment specialist. Together with Domaine Palm Marrakech, a Semaris subsidiary, they have created Apexia Beachcomber Properties, a real estate investment fund that will own both hotel assets.

The ownership structure allocates 51% to Ynexis, 40% to Beachcomber Hotels, and 9% to Domaine Palm Marrakech. While the fund holds property ownership, Beachcomber will maintain exclusive hotel operations, partnering with Fairmont Hotels and Resorts for daily management.

New Mauritius Hotels has demonstrated strong financial performance, reporting a remarkable 32.4% revenue increase for the first half of the year, reaching Rs 626 million. This growth occurred despite earthquake-related insurance costs affecting EBITDA performance.

The residential component continues thriving independently, with 150 villas already sold from the first phase. Domaine Palm Marrakech plans launching 85 new luxury villas under Semaris's premium real estate development expertise.

This Marrakech expansion reinforces New Mauritius Hotels' position as a serious global hospitality player, extending beyond its eight Mauritius luxury resorts to include properties in Seychelles and Morocco.
